Infected Comupters Extract Crypto Currency
September 18, 2017 16:22

Experts have recorded an increase in the viral infection of computers with malicious software turning the devices into tools for extracting crypto currency. This is reported by TASS with a reference to the research of the “Kaspersky Lab” company.

Experts have found several botnets at once, each of them containing thousands of infected computers. In this case both ordinary users and entire organizations become victims of malware. Programs designed for mining get into the devices through installation of advertising software. They are most often distributed under the guise of free programs on various file sharing websites.

“According to the calculations of analysts, the mining network brings its owners up to $ 30,000 per month” - the company representatives noted, adding that the most popular currencies for hidden mining were Monero and Zcash.

According to the Vedomosti newspaper, about nine thousand devices were found in botnet networks, at that, the vast majority of infected devices are located in Russia.
