“VKontakte” has recorded a sharp increase in German-speaking users during the period from January 20 to February 9. This was reported to “Lenta.ru” by the press secretary of the social network Evgeny Krasnikov.
This happened after the “Anonymous” hacker group encouraged its readers to subscribe to its public page in the Russian social network. The followers of the German Facebook community of “Anonymous” amounts to 1.8 million people - more than 17 thousand of them are now registered in “VKontakte” as a result. The number of registrations has increased not only in the countries where German is an official language (Germany, Austria and Switzerland), but also, for example, in Hungary.
The reasons for the move of “Anonymous” are deemed the cases of content removal from Facebook at the request of the German authorities, as well as the fact that “VKontakte” offers German-language interface, free music and movies. However, publications in the “Anonymous” community in Facebook were not stopped.
On December 23, 2015 “Anonymous” accused Turkey of supporting “Islamic State” (the organization is banned in Russia) and declared cyberwar against Ankara. According to the Daily Mail newspaper, the grouping hacked about 40 thousand Internet sites across the country. In December 2015 the hackers of “Anonymous” also took upon themselves the responsibility for 97 cyber attacks on Japanese websites. Many of the damaged resources belonged to the government of the country.
